Welcome to the British Kitchen Journal.
This will be the first journal entry on the new British Kitchen website so I am going to use it to give a little introduction into who I am and why I set up British Kitchen.
My name is Jack, I am 27 years old, I have a long standing interest in British food, both its current state and its changing history. After finishing secondary school I went to the University of Manchester to study Economics and Social Studies at the end of my studies I decided to take a risk and follow my passion for food and cooking. This led me to study an Intensive Cordon Bleu Diploma at Tante Marie Culinary Academy. During my time at Tante Marie I stagiaired for a couple of weeks at the Michelin starred St John Bar and Restaurant in Smithfield (arguably the flagship restaurant of the revival of British food and cooking in the 90’s). When I graduated from Tante Marie top of my intake St John kindly offered me a job. I had a fantastic time learning at St John but was hampered by ongoing health issues which caused me eventually to return to East Sussex after a year in London. Back in East Sussex I worked briefly at The Swan Wine Kitchen at Chapel Down Vineyard before deciding to focus full time on my new project, British Kitchen.
British Kitchen is the culmination of my years of interest and research into British Food. I wanted a way to highlight our countries strong culinary traditions, that are so often overlooked. British Kitchen allows me to do that both by publishing articles on British food on the website and by getting hands on experience via a British Kitchen monthly supper club. The supper clubs will be themed on different aspects of British food, examples might be, food from WWI and WWII, medieval food, European influences and the influences of immigration on our food culture. Each super club will also highlight local ingredients.
I look forward to welcoming you to a supper club soon but until then I hope that you enjoy looking through the British Kitchen Journal. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if there is anything that you would like to talk about.
Our next event is : Taste of Tradition – Saturday 30th June 2018
